- CONSTRUCTION QUALITY CONTROL SERVICES FOR RESIDENTIAL, MULTI-FAMILY AND COMMERCIAL SITES
- SOIL & AGGREGATE TESTING
- ASPHALT CONSTRUCTION QUALITY CONTROL SERVICES
- CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION QUALITY CONTROL SERVICES
- SPECIAL INSPECTIONS
A key to the success of residential, multi-family and commercial construction projects is to ensure that the soils are able to support the structures and roadways. GTSI (GroundTech) technicians are well trained and instilled with a “common sense” culture derived from years of testing and evaluation. Complementing our field service capabilities is our in-house laboratory where a variety of soils evaluation testing and concrete strength testing is conducted.
GTSI has decades of experience completing thousands of projects within the Charlotte Metropolitan area and Mid-Carolina region providing construction quality control services for residential, multi-family and commercial sites. GTSI (GroundTech) performs construction materials testing services during excavation activities to qualify load-bearing surfaces in accordance with the industry standards and project requirements as specified in the design. From large commercial projects requiring deep foundation soils analysis to individual residential soils capacity evaluations, GTSI has the experience and expertise to ensure the long-term performance within your project.
SOIL & AGGREGATE TESTING & CONSTRUCTION QUALITY CONTROL SERVICES
GTSI (GroundTech) performs the following construction materials testing quality control services:
- Determine the suitability of the on-site and off-site borrow soils and assess whether in-situ soils can accommodate the construction project by conducting preliminary soil testing and ongoing observations and tests
- Test the soil and aggregates for strength, density, compaction, contamination, moisture, organics and assess the impact on the construction project, including NC DOT projects.
- GTSI collects soil samples and performs proctor compaction tests at our in-house materials testing laboratory to determine optimal moisture content at which the soil type will become most dense and achieve its maximum dry density.
- GTSI performs soil compaction testing using the Standard Test Methods for Density of Soils in Place by the Drive-Cylinder Method (ASTM D-2937).
- GTSI performs Hand Auger Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) soil compaction testing.
- GTSI performs Nuclear Gauge in-place testing of soils, stone and asphalt.
- Monitor the placement of compacted fill material for structures (residential, multi-family and commercial buildings, retaining walls, other structures and roadways).
- Evaluate undercutting operations.
- Perform proofroll observations where compacted soil is assessed for unsuitable areas in order to supply a balanced support system for the structure of a roadway or building. If unsuitable subgrade locations are identified during construction they are corrected so that the density of the subgrade is maintained.
- Monitor placement of aggregates and geosynthetic materials for roadways and retaining walls.
- GTSI has performed thousands of residential foundation tests of the soil subgrade for compliance with the International Building Code (IBC) and local municipalities. GTSI (GroundTech) can perform a foundation test for your project and produce the required certification paperwork for the project municipality inspection agency.

ASPHALT CONSTRUCTION QUALITY CONTROL SERVICES
GTSI (GroundTech) performs field testing and provides laboratory testing data to document that your asphalt pavement system is constructed in accordance with the project plans.
- GTSI performs nuclear gauge testing and coring of asphalt to determine the asphalt density and thickness.
GTSI has QMS Roadway Technicians to perform construction material testing on NCDOT roadways.
CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION QUALITY CONTROL SERVICES
GTSI (GroundTech) monitors placement of concrete and performs concrete testing.
- GTSI performs Slump testing on Site to measure the concrete’s workability or fluidity.
- GTSI records concrete temperature.
- GTSI casts concrete cylinders and returns them to the GTSI in-house laboratory for compressive strength testing.
SPECIAL INSPECTIONS
GTSI (GroundTech) performs objective and competent special inspections independent from the contractor responsible for the work to provide you with the construction quality control services you need for the success of your project. The International Building Code (IBC) Chapter 17 provides the requirements for Special Inspections and Tests. Below are some of the areas GTSI performs special inspections:
- Foundation construction observations – soil compaction testing and inspection
- Concrete strength testing and in-place strength testing
- Post-tensioning and reinforcing steel inspections
- Mortar, block, brick and fireproofing testing
- Field inspection and quality control of masonry construction
